Cape Town is located at 33 degrees 55 minutešs south 18 degrees 22 minutes east. It lies in the southern tip of the African continent with the Indian Ocean to its east and Atlantic Ocean to its west. Europeans discovered the Cape all searching for route to India in the end of the 15th century. The source came in the mid-17th-century. It wasn't until the early 19th century Britain took over the colony of the bankrupt Dutch in East India Company. The British struggled for years to maintain control and it wasn't until 1962 the Union of South Africa became independent republic. South Africa has the strongest economy on African continent. Over 40 million people live there. The climate is temperate in the Cape area and tropical across he rest of the country. The prevailing winds of the summer are Southeast replaced by Western Northwest winds in winter.
